Sleepwalking Through The Mekong
Dengue Fever
An album, yes— but it's the soundtrack to a documentary freely available here, documenting group Dengue Fever's first trip to the country of Cambodia, whose music has been so pivotal in the development of their own. Lead singer Chhon Nimol leads her American bandmates on a musical tour that spans time as well as space in the service of understanding a more complete context. "Sleepwalking" features rare musical reprints from Cambodian pop history alongside their contemporary descendants, offering a window of love and admiration into a culture about which I knew very little.
